Q: Privitization and Corporatization of the FAA?
A: Why everyone should be encouraging non-members to become members.
If you thought that you would be better off working for a private corporation, you would not have entered government service. A lot of us have sacrificed, through sequestration, hiring freezes, cuts in benefits, furloughs, shutdowns, etc.
We endure these trials to be able to deliver the safest aviation system in the world, on a daily basis.
The House Aviation Subcommittee was hearing testimony on what the future of our organization should look like yesterday. The one theme that was repeated, by ALL those who gave testimony, was that oversight and regulation should remain governmental, and the Air Navigation Service Provider(ANSP) .. otherwise known as the ATO, should be “privatized” or “Corporatized”. If you think we will be better off, just ask someone who has worked at the post office how that has worked out for them. Congress is seriously coonsidering how to make the ATO into a not for profit corporation. PASS is adamant that we remain government employees.
With only 34% of the employees we represent as dues paying members,it is hard to be heard above the chorus chanting for privitization.
NOW is the time for every bargaining unit employee represented by PASS to stand up and make our collective voice heard. If you are not a member, that is being seen as complicit support for whatever management proposes.
What follows is a taste of what they are proposing.
Statement by Craig L. Fuller Vice Chairman Federal Aviation Administration Management Advisory Council (MAC) Before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Subcommittee on Aviation On “Options for FAA Air Traffic Control Reform” March 24, 2015:
Excerpt:
“A CONCEPT EMERGED We carefully considered issues discussed with us during our outreach sessions with nearly 30 different organizations. We met with some organizations that have developed their own specific governance options and paid special attention to approaches that would remove the Air Traffic Organization from within the FAA. While we found agreement that creating a stand alone Air Traffic Organization could provide greater accountability and a more business like approach to modernization, we would suggest that advantages identified for the ATO need to be applied across the full range of FAA responsibilities.”
…”The concept is the creation of a Federal Corporation that would incorporate the full set of functions contained within today’s FAA.”

We need every voice in PASS to stand together and shout above all that noise to let Congress know that we desire to remain “inherently governmental”. If you value your job, and want it to remain a government job, I urge you to share this with non-members, and encourage them to JOIN PASS NOW!
I will be going to DC this May to let Congress know where we stand.
Please urge everyone you work with to join and consider donating to the PASS PAC to be kept up to date as legislation that could be detrimental to us moves through this session of Congress.
We will need to contact Congress members to keep bad legislation from harming our families and our futures.
Urgently and fraternally,
Tim Mach
