Earlier this week, PASS filed a national grievance claiming that when the FAA delayed paying “excepted” employees who worked during the shutdown furlough it violated the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and must pay damages to all impacted employees. The grievance mirrors the claims set forth in a lawsuit recently filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims by a group of federal employees. PASS is asking that the grievance be held in abeyance pending resolution of the lawsuit. More information will be provided as the case is processed.

PASS members from Chapter MI1 and MI2 join to inform the public about the effects of the government shutdown.
Most travelers that we spoke with were unaware that we were involved in the shutdown.
They only had heard that the national parks and monuments were closed.
Some were surprised to hear that aviation safety inspectors were furloughed and not protecting them while they fly.
The informational pickets will continue Thursday and Friday October 10-11, 2013 from 2:30- 4:30 each day in front of the Mcnamara Terminal on the departure level.
Please join us on your RDO, after work, or if you are furloughed.

A Labor Day message from a fellow Chapter Officer

Greetings PASS Brothers and Sisters,

“Unions are, by definition, the coming together of many individuals with some common interests.” – Paul F Clark, Building More Effective Unions

As you are enjoying time with your families and/or friends this Labor Day, try to take a moment to remember the American Union workers who went before you, and me, who sacrificed their lives, lifestyles and even jobs, in hopes to make treatment of the average American worker (from working hours, to working conditions, to pay) better. In our case (FAA technical employees) this vision started with one man, Mr Howard Johannssen, PASS’ founder, and first National President.
